Are these UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) or Un-sustainable Goals on Food Security Sustainable? Are these Goals Sustainable? Pl. read below to develop your own opinion. Why proposed UN SDGs on food security and nutrition are unsustainable? By: Vijay Sardana President of the General Assembly of United Nations has submitted draft outcome document of the United Nations summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda and proposed 17 Sustainability Development Goals. World leaders will endorse and sign this charter in September 2015 in New York. Let me share my views on one Sustainable Development Goal i.e. SDG 2.  It  says, End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. It says many good things but the way global political system works I have doubt whether these Goals can be achieved in the provided time frame with the available resources.  According to UN Sustaina...

Build Trust to Build Sales Volume

Image
Build Trust to Build Sales Volume Just released data indicates that processed and pre-packaged foods sales are going down. Maggi recall impact is considered as one of the major factors. If this is so, it is a serious message for food companies. This indicates that consumers will trust authorities’ verdict more than the brand. I Personally, I feel there is more than one reason for the downfall in sales. Which I will discuss later in this article. Let me start with what industry leaders are saying in various forums. The major factor cited for decline of the processed food sales is negative publicity about processed foods due to Maggi recall incidence. This raises a fundamental question. Why companies are not able to build the trust between them and consumers? Why consumers still doubt the product integrity?  What is the trust level between consumers and food companies? Why the trust level is so low that by one incidence whole industry feel the ripple effect. It is the basic q...

Act for Independence from Corruption in Private

Image
Independence Day Special   Time to Act for Independence from Corruption in Private Sector Today when I was listening to Speech of Prime Minister's on the occasion of Independence Day,  there was lot of emphasis on corruption free administration in government to make India economic power. I was thinking is this the only thing which can make India economic power and bring prosperity to all. I don't think so. Importantly, the UNODC in its report points out that while there are many laws in the country that are aimed at checking corruption, "India has no specific legislation addressing corruption in the private sector". It calls for strengthening of existing laws and enactment of new legislation to, among other things, protect whistleblowers. The first report titled Corporate Integrity - India: Incentives for corporate integrity in accordance with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption "which addresses a larger umbrella of private sec...

Register/Follow us on Twitter for updates... Why Nestle not forthcoming on reason behind high MSG levels in Maggi? With Maggi continuing to be off the shelves in the market place, government today said its manufacturer Nestle was “not forthcoming” on giving reasons for the high MSG levels found in some of the packages.   Health Minister J P Nadda said in Lok Sabha that the government did not ban Maggi but had asked Nestle to recall the product and give reasons for the high Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) level found in it. “They are yet to reply. They are not forthcoming,” the Minister said during Question Hour. Observing that government was committed to maintain safety and wholesomeness of the food item as well as the growth of the food processing industry, he said the enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards Act and regulations was “in overall public interest.” He said the Maggi samples were examined following uniform protocol, which was even prescribed by...
