At the outset let me say Big Thank You to you for your time you spared on this blog. It is amazing experience and feeling to know that more than 100,000 people have read the views expressed on this blog in more than 135 countries.

Experience while writing blog from village

In one of my earlier blog I mentioned, how and why I started writing blog.  It was just to utilize the spare time in remote village near Rewa City in the state of Madhya Pradesh, where as Chief Operating Officer I was managing one of the most Modern Soybean and Mustard Oil Seeds Processing Complex in India. Away from city it was peaceful place to reflect on many issues and execute ideas on ground related to rural economy, poverty in villages, upliftment of poor farmers and role of agro-economy. Another big issue was how to improve the productivity and bring best practices into highly unorganized edible oil industry and trade in India.

After visiting villages and meeting with farmers, it was always a desire to express what is happening in rural India on ground. Most of the writings appearing in media and text book very often looks like travelers account or travelogues. Most of these authors come to rural India to understand what is happening on ground but unless they live and feel the ground reality, it is difficult to capture what is actually happening on ground. Many things rural population talk about is what they feel about them, but many things they don't talk about is because they don't feel it is important. This is because they never expected and thought that these issues can be important like lack of good practices in agriculture, issues related to climate change, skill development, human rights, child rights, women empowerment, animal welfare and many other issues.

Their life revolves around ensuring economic security and economic activity and they continue to struggle to ensure that upcoming crop should not fail, because there is no risk management and risk mitigation system in place to give them peace of mind.

What I learned while writing Blog:
I started my blog writing by looking into the issues on ground in agriculture and related activities. I never imagined that blog will travel to 135+ countries and more than 100,000 people will read the blog. While doing so, I must say, it was quite an enriching experiencing. Some of them are as follows:

Plus many small island countries in Pacific ocean.

If I plot these countries on the world map, it covers virtually whole world except few CIS countries and few Latin American countries. In these countries, English is very rarely used. It is important learning that in financially globalized world, there is no common language to communicate except the language of money. It reinforces that local languages and understand of local cultures is vital to expand the reach of ideas, products and services.

12. Another learning was that I was also able to understand what people like and don't like. It helped me in understanding my readers better. This has helped me (or forced me) to observe more, study more and write more.  This itself made my approach towards my work more holistic and interesting.

3. Better time utilization: Blogging has also forced me to read and write a lot. I think it was a better time utilization that watching TV or reading something meaningless or just roaming around.

4. Reconnecting with friend and well-wishers: Blogging has helped me in reconnecting with my friends around the world. earlier this was only on festivals or on new year, now I am in touch with all of them round the year. The most interesting part is when I go for any meeting or conference people do comment about my blog and express their observations with me. This also shows they read and react. My blogs do have some small impact somewhere on their thought process. What else one can expect from the blog.

Let me say, it was worth doing it. It made me wise, it helped me in understanding many issues better and connected me to the world at no extra cost.

Once again thank you to all of you. I hope you will continue to react on issues which you like or don't like.
